ESKOM EXPO FOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS 2020: 6th and 7th AUGUST

NELSON MANDELA BAY REGIONAL EXPO

Dear Principals/Science educator,                                     INVITATION TO ALL SCHOOLS TO PARTICIPATE  

Your learners are invited to participate in or to visit the Nelson Mandela Bay Regional Science Expo taking place at the Nelson Mandela University, Indoor Sports Centre, MISSIONVALE on the following dates:

Closing date for entries Tuesday 30 July 2020.  Only On-line entries will be accepted. NO LATE ENTRIES.  Should you experience any problems please contact:  Marilyn Gibbs (084 5831958) OR Tracey Woods – after 14:00. (082 874 0567). The Entry fee is R40 per project.2019 categories list with descriptors and assessor’s rubric are available on the website.

DISPLAY BOARDS WILL BE SUPPLIED AND NO ENTRANT WILL BE ALLOWED TO BRING THEIR OWN DISPLAY BOARD. Grade 2-5 may take their projects home after being judged twice, after 17:00 on the 6th AUGUST. DISPLAY BOARDS: GRADE 6&7 PROJECTS MUST BE LEFT UP and collected from 16:00 – 18:00: 7th AUGUST 2020. Please take all files, models and valuables on the 6th AUGUST.

Each junior or senior school may send a maximum of 20 projects with a maximum of 2 learners per project. We encourage individual projects. PLEASE NOTE: ONLY Grade 6 – 12 learners will be selected for the International Eskom Expo for Young Scientists NMB Team with preference being given to individual projects. Only Individual projects will be considered for International Selection (ISF).

To qualify to participate in the Regional Eskom Expo for Young Scientists 2020, you are required to take part in your school expo, or a school cluster or district expo. For every 10 project entries from your school you need to supply a teacher assessor/judge that has attended the training workshop. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Projects are all judged by at least TWO judges (except Grade 2 – 3 learners) and are then awarded a PARTICIPATION, BRONZE, SILVER or GOLD award. A team of 20 -28 learners (Grade 6 -12 ONLY) are selected to travel to Johannesburg to attend the Eskom ISF at the Birchwood Conference Centre in September 2019 and to represent the Eastern Cape.

Entrants’ research information MUST BE BROUGHT ON A4 SIZE display cards (portrait or landscape and not a mixture of the two) AND NO large printed display posters allowed. PRESTIK ONLY must be used to put up your display and the learner MUST set up their own project.

School and District Event report forms and plagiarism forms, along with the project outline book are available on the website.

PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU COMPLETE A SCHOOL/DISTRICT EVENT REPORT IF YOU HOLD A SCHOOL OR DISTRICT EXPO.
